Sanders imported 300,000 pairs of eclipse glasses from the US, of which 100,000 were distributed at discount prices to astronomy clubs and community groups. Yet, for many, this effort came too late, and demand continues to outstrip supply. Jake Fisher, astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, suggested using household items like a colander or a piece of paper with a small hole poked in it to project the eclipse onto a flat surface. “Don’t look at the sun itself but instead at the shadow that’s being produced; you should be able to see the shape of the eclipse within it,” he explained.

The eclipse will begin across the UK around 6:17 PM, peaking just after 7:10 PM. Depending on the viewer's location, the Moon will cover between 90% and 96% of the Sun. Major cities like London, Cardiff, and Birmingham are expected to experience nearly complete coverage, making this a prime opportunity for stargazers.
