Category: Arts & Culture

On a crisp September day in Hongcheon, South Korea, excitement filled the air as students, teachers, and families gathered for the 2026 National e-Festival for Students with Disabilities. Hosted by the Netmarble Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with the National Special Education Institute and the Korea Creative Content Agency, this event held on September 8-9 marked a celebration of talent and inclusion. With a backdrop of colorful banners and the hum of anticipation, the festival brought together approximately 1,600 participants, all eager to showcase their skills in various competitions.

The core question surrounding this event is: how does such a festival empower students with disabilities and promote a culture of acceptance and recognition in society?

The Festival in Detail

The festival was supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, highlighting its importance in the educational and cultural landscapes of South Korea. From May to July, around 3,000 students participated in local qualifiers across the nation, with the top competitors selected to participate in the final event. This year’s festival featured 29 different competitions, including 11 e-sports events like *Magu Magu Remaster* and *Everyone’s Marble*, alongside 18 information skill contests.

Among those who triumphed in the e-sports competitions were Kim Ha-yul and Lee Dong-woo from Jumong School, who claimed victory in the *Magu Magu Remaster* category. In the *Everyone’s Marble* competition, students Choi Eun-yoo and Choi Jung-woo from Yeongdong Elementary School took home the top prize. Kim Ha-yul expressed their joy, stating, “We challenged ourselves last year, but this year we practiced even harder. I’m so happy to overcome the nerves and win.”

Recognizing Achievements

The festival celebrated the winners and provided awards to the top teams in each category, with 29 teams receiving accolades from the Minister of Education and the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. This recognition serves as a powerful motivator for students and shows the value of their achievements in a competitive environment.

In addition to the competitions, the festival featured a variety of cultural programs aimed at engaging participants and their families. Performances included a ballet show titled *The Ballerina Who Loved B-Boying*, an illusion magic show, an e-world quiz show, a hip-hop e-stage, and a play called *Play the Beat*. These events entertained and promoted a sense of community and belonging among attendees, reinforcing the festival's mission of inclusivity.

Beyond Competition: A Cultural Experience

The festival was much more than just a series of competitions; it was a platform for cultural exchange and connection. Families and friends gathered to cheer for their loved ones and to participate in various activities that celebrated creativity and teamwork. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, cheers, and a sense of shared purpose, as everyone came together to support the participants.

As participants engaged in the cultural programs, they were encouraged to explore their talents beyond the competitive events. The festival aimed to cultivate a healthy gaming culture, nurture creative future talents, and expand the culture of sharing, all of which are central goals of the Netmarble Cultural Foundation, established in 2018.

The Future of Inclusion

Looking ahead, the festival organizers are committed to continuing this initiative, ensuring that the achievements of students with disabilities receive the recognition they deserve. The results of the information skill contests and other events will be announced later on the festival's official website, keeping the excitement alive even after the event concludes.

This festival serves as a reminder of the importance of inclusivity in education and society. By providing a platform for students with disabilities to showcase their skills, the event empowers the participants and challenges societal perceptions about disability. It encourages everyone to recognize the talent and potential that exists within every individual, regardless of their abilities.

As we celebrate the accomplishments of these remarkable students, it is clear that events like the 2026 National e-Festival for Students with Disabilities play a key role in fostering a more inclusive society. The festival highlights the achievements of its participants and inspires future generations to embrace diversity and champion the cause of inclusion.
